The award selection committee nominated Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja for the Arjuna Award. He is not the only one to receive the award, but among the 19 other sportsmen nominated for this prestigious award.
The Arjuna Awards are presented by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India to honor excellence in sports.
According to reports from India Today, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recommended for the Arjuna Award fast bowlers names such as Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and women’s team leg-spinner Poonam Yadav.
Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja was the one who helped India reach the 2019 World Cup finals in the semi-finals with a 59-ball 79 innings against New Zealand.
There are many other sportsmen on the list- ace wrestler Bajrang Punia and Deepa Malik are set to be awarded the 2019 Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award — the highest sporting honor in the country.
Meanwhile, Punia and Vinesh Phogat were recommended for the prestigious award by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).
